LOVE!

As a challenge to myself in 2013....I will finish some quilting projects for myself!  I will!  You just watch and see!

Last Friday, I was working at The Quilted Forest and machine quilted a couple of panels to be used as shop samples.  Check out this adorable Valentine panel by titled "LOVE" by Robert Kaufman.

I was so smitten I just had to bring one home for myself. (okay...so I actually brought home two) I decided that for my own project, I was just going to quilt it up very simply...and that's exactly what I did. I grabbed a ruler and my Clover Chaco Liner Pen and chalked a line diagonally from the upper left to the lower right corner of the panel. Layering my panel with batting and backing I sewed along that chalked line. Next I moved my ruler and chalked a line 2 inches from my initial line and sewed that. I kept that up on each side of my original line until the entire panel was completed!

I added a sleeve for hanging across the top on the back and I found some solid red fabric in my stash that matched to use for binding!  And just like that it's TaDone!

How easy was that?  You want to make one too, don't you?  Remember I said I picked up two panels?  Well, all you have to do is post a comment below and I will draw a winner at the end of the week and send you some LOVE!

  1. Okay...very cute...but you had me when you said "I will draw a winner at the end of the week"...I love the simplicity of your quilting! I often do that very thing because sometimes simple is better!

    1. Thanks, Mary! My first instinct is always "it probably needs more"...so this was a good project for me to relax a bit and go with "simple". And I have a red wall to hang it on...just need to find a hanger!

  2. Isn't that little bird just the cutest? I've got a LOVE pieced top (Tula Pink) basted to quilt. I can never seem to take that first step to get started. I'm a good piecer but my quilting SUCKS! :-) I know all the techniques, have the books, DVD's etc....just can't seem to sit down and practice. Hopeless....... But maybe I should take your advice and do something simple to get started. We are bombarded with absolutely fantastic machine quilting everywhere we look these days and I seem to think I need to do that much. You just proved that it doesn't have to be that complicated. Thank you!!!!

    1. Go for it, Kathyl! The more I walk by this panel the more I am loving the simplicity of the quilting. This little project didn't take me long at all and it felt so great when I was done to have a something finished!

    2. Wish I could quilt like you. The panel is sooo pretty and you do such a great job. I have to stick to very small table runners every thing else gets to have someone else quilt it. You make this sound so easy! Yes it does feel great to finish things!
      Thanks for posting!! Christy Coffelt

    3. Christy, with a little 505 spray and a fe pins this was so easy. The finished size is about 35x44 so not too hard to handle!

    1. You know, Carol, I thought of you when I was quilting this one...and I totally agree....what a sweet little baby quilt this would make. Especially if you knew a baby girl was coming around Valentines Day!

    2. Carol! Keep an eye on your mailbox (well...not literally...that would be awkward) I drew your name as the winner of the LOVE panel!

  5. Too cute Penny!! It reminds me of the late 60's ~ early 70's. All you need is LOVE (and thread and material and a needle ...)

  6. Such a cute panel great for Valentina's day. I always wait until the last minute and then can't finish in time. This panel would be great, thanks for the chance.

    1. Thanks, Kathy! I'm like you...I don't seem to get things finished in time (this would explain all the Christmas fabric still piled up in my studio that were supposed to be Christmas quilts...). I'm so proud of myself that I'm ahead of the game this year! (okay, so it's only January) ;)
